Fire behavior and fire prevention in our beautiful wildland

Spring, 2025

Join Santa Rosa Battalion Chief Matt Dahl for an educational hands-on workshop in Mendocino County to learn and prevent the danger of wildland fire. 

 

Learn fire prevention as you escape the hustle and reconnect with nature at our exclusive workshop, nestled in the heart of a permaculture farm in Mendocino County. For a day, or a longer stay, immerse yourself in a sanctuary of serenity where the rhythm of life is governed by the sun, the soil, and the stars. This is more than a workshop—it’s an opportunity to embark a partnership with nature in its exuberance in one of Northern California’s most beautiful and sustainable environments.
 

CURRICULUM:

  1. Fire chemistry

  2. How fire spreads

  3. Fuel: grass, brush and timber (reduce fuels around your house)

  4. Clearing

  5. Defensible space

  6. Fire weather

  7. Fire awareness

  8. How the fire department works : how to respond to fire, how long it takes the fire fighters to arrive, what to do while you wait

  9. Questions and answers

  10. Practice hike around the forest learning and clearing fuel

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

 

Everyone seeking to gain knowledge and skills to reduce the risk of fires in your home, property, or community. It's ideal for deepening your skills, reconnecting with nature, or taking a refreshing break from daily life, revitalizing your mind, body, and spirit.

 

YOUR STAY:

  • Included Accommodations: Camping facilities at the site (tent space, outdoor hot showers and toilets, cooking facilities).

  • Available: Deluxe glamping accommodations and limited RV space may be available nearby (additional fee applies).

  • Food: Potluck style with generous offerings from local farm and forest. *Nearest groceries are 30 minutes away, so please, bring everything you need to be full and happy. Our spring water here is great so bring your water bottle.

  • Family Friendly: Children are welcome at a discounted rate when accompanied by parents.
